5 steps

1. Forecasting load

We must get as accurate a picture as possible of what the electricity needs are expected to be over the next 20 years under a variety of scenarios.

2. Energy options

We must look at our current inventory of energy supply and determine how much of a shortfall we will need to make up over the next two decades.

3. Analyzing portfolio

We must look at all the possible energy options available to us, analyze each one based on a consistent set of criteria, and determine which ones make the most sense technically, economically, environmentally and socially.

4. Draft plan

We will draft a resource plan and give you an opportunity to review it and comment.

5. Final plan

We will finalize the plan and submit it to our regulator, the Yukon Utilities Board.

Your input is crucial

You have have a chance to ask questions and give input throughout this process. In 2016, many of you had an opportunity to complete a survey that focussed on your hopes for Yukon’s electricity future. Knowing that any energy option requires trade-off, we asked you how would you balance issues such as environmental protection, cost, reliability, and sufficient supply. Survey results can be read here

We are coming to the end of this planning process. Watch this website for details about how you can continue to be involved right up until we finalize our resource plan in March 2017.  Some ways include:

  • public meetings/presentations/open houses
  • interactive pages on this website
  • social media sites
  • email or call us with your comments or questions
